CHOISEUL ARTS AND CRAFTS CENTRE

The Choiseul Arts and Craft Center is perhaps the most notable business in all of
Choiseul and is the focal point of our budding arts and craft industry. So many people
in Choiseul take part in some type of artistic trade that the Craft Center has become
an integral part in the lives of many of Choiseul’s families. At the Craft Center you can
find many different kinds of art from all over Choiseul including pottery, grass
weavings, children’s dolls, professional framed photos, coconut and wood carvings and
much more. To purchase something from the Craft Center is to support Choiseul and
the craft culture we are famous for.
The Craft Center is owned and operated by the Ministry of Education and opened in
1989. It is located in La Fargue, just above Choiseul Village and has 5 full time
employees. Its primary function is to provide a market for the purchase and sale of
Choiseul’s arts and craft. The Center’s secondary function is as an NSDC (National
Skills Development Center) training center, where unemployed persons over the age
of 17 can learn valuable skills such as construction and craft design as well as skills to
be used in the tourism industry, just to name a few. Their year’s work plan is to open
a restaurant next to the Craft Center as well as to improve their partnership with
CATCH (Choiseul Association of Craft and Heritage Tourism) and assist them with
helping Choiseul’s many artisans.
